Compass Group is committed to business practices that earn financial success by honoring ethical values, respecting people, valuing our communities and sustaining the natural environment. Acting responsibly is part of our corporate DNA and is at the very heart of our vision and values
In August 2005, Compass Group collaborated with Environmental Defense to develop a first-of-its-kind purchasing policy to curb antibiotic use in pork production. Environmental Defense, a leading national nonprofit organization, creates breakthrough solutions to the most serious environmental problems.
In 2006, Compass Group announced a major policy to shift our purchases away from threatened fish species and toward sustainable sourced supplies, becoming the largest food service company ever to introduce a policy on such a scale.
In December 2007, two ground breaking initiatives took place. Compass implemented a cage-free shell egg policy that significantly improves the welfare of hundreds of thousands of farm animals each year. We also entered into a partnership with Pura Vida Coffee which allows us to offer our customers Fair Trade coffee and teas.
Being one of the largest employers in the world, we can influence and mobilize a large number of our associates to do the right thing. As our tagline says, it is about everyone doing their part everyday to conserve our resources, protect the environment and enhance our communities, wherever they may be.
Our Campus success stories have been.
· Washing our dishes in batches to reduce water and chemical use
· We turn off the dining room lights between meals to reduce electricity use
· We have reduced the use of Styrofoam buy switching to a recyclable paper cup and tray
· We have partnered with our produce purveyor to receive fresh local sustainable produce
· We now use frying oil with zero trans fats
These are some small steps that have been taken in this big world of problems, we will continue to support the college's mission and hope that this information has helped. I will continue to evolve this process and feel that we can make a dramatic impact on our campus.
Thank you all.
