Are meal plans available for commuter and graduate students?

Yes. Commuter students can sign up for either a Block Meal Plan or a Dining Dollar Meal Plan by visiting St. John's Central and clicking on the UIS tab. You can also add money to your card as low as $25 to take advantage of the tax savings on every purchase. Add $100 or more and get an additional 10% FREE bonus!

What are the benefits of being on a meal plan?

Purchases made with a meal plan are sales-tax free, which means you save almost 10% on every dining purchase on campus. Plus, you have the added convenience of not having to worry about having enough cash or pulling out your credit card. Additionally, meal plans come with free perks such as Bonus Dollars, Meal Exchanges, and Guest Passes.

What is the difference between Swipes, Meal Points, Flex Dollars, Dining Dollars, and Bonus Dollars?

Swipes come with resident meal plans and are used to enter Montgoris, the all-you-care-to-eat dining location.

Meal Points come with resident meal plans and are declining balance dollars that can be used similar to a debit card in on-campus retail locations.

Flex Dollars are for faculty/staff, visitors, and students and can be used in dining, the bookstore or on postage and other on-campus items. The money is taxable, refundable, and does not expire. Flex Dollars do not receive the 10% bonus on $100 or more.

Dining Dollars is money that students can add to their cards to be used only in the dining locations on campus. This works like a debit card; the money is subtracted from your account based on what you purchase. This money is tax-free, expires on May 31st, and is non-refundable. Only on Dining Dollars do you receive the 10% bonus when adding $100 or more at once.

Bonus Dollars are free funds that you receive when adding $100 or more in dining dollars at once. These can be used once your dining dollars run out.

What is a Meal Exchange?

A Meal Exchange is using a Meal Swipe in a retail location. Resident students on meal plans and Commuter students on Board meal plans are able to use a meal swipe as a meal exchange at select retail locations during meal exchange times.

Meal Exchanges are accepted Monday - Friday at D'Angelo Food Court from 11am - 10pm; 7 Days a Week at Hungry Johnnie's from 5pm - 1am; Monday - Friday at Marillac Food Court from 5pm - 9pm; Saturdays & Sundays from open - close at Dunkin' Donuts; and Monday - Friday from 5pm - 10pm at Red Storm Diner. At each regsiter, a chart will be shown that indicates the items available for meal exchange.

You are permitted to use one meal exchange per meal period, totaling two meal exchanges per day. The meal periods are defined as: Lunch 11am - 4:59pm & Dinner 5pm - Closing. If you use a meal swipe in Montgoris, you cannot use a meal exchange in the same meal period.
